Bodgers Swan Song Stuart King2024
After 59 years of demonstrating the ancient Chair Bodgers pole lathe at public events both here and abroad it is time to hang up my bodging boots. It would be great if you could join me in my last ‘Bodgerthon’ at High Wycombe Museum this Sunday, the weather looks good!

Kestrels in the Chilterns by Stuart King
Просмотров 142Месяц назад
This is one of my best wildlife captures using limited photographic resources. I spotted a pair of Kestrels flying in and around an ancient ash tree the other day and felt a ‘Wildwood Moment’ presenting itself. I was hoping to film some rabbits emerging from their quiet overgrown bramble retreat, instead, I was very lucky to film the remarkable behavior of the Kestrels. These birds used to be a...

A great old English evening at a great old English pub, the Red Lion in Little Missenden, Bucks. Maybe not to the taste of yuppy disco lovers but the locals all had a good time, Cheers.

Holmer Green and nearby hilltop villages were famous for their cherry harvest and the wonderful sight of the orchards full of white blossoms in the spring. This video provides a flavour of those times gone by.

Leafcutter Bee Stuart King

My son Adam made me a 'bee hotel' which I set up on my garden fence. This film illustrates just one small thing that we can do to help our wildlife. Leafcutter bees are solitary bees that generally nest in pre-existing cavities such as in deadwood, plant stems, wall cavities and bee hotels. Once a female has emerged in early summer and mated, she will set to work on constructing her nest. Withi...
Flying Ant Day Holmer Green 8th Aug 2023 Stuart King
Просмотров 5411 месяцев назад
Last Tuesday was ‘Flying Ant Day’ in Holmer Green. Flying Ant Day usually arrives around mid-July/early August as the queens emerge and travel to set up new colonies. Most ants that we see don't have wings, but the queens and males do. In summer, the young queens fly off to meet mates on the wing and set-up a new colony.
Bumble Bees, Bramble and Foxgloves Stuart King

Bluebells are just a blue haze memory and sadly the Wildwood foxgloves are nearly spent, and so the bees move onto the blackberry flowers. It will soon be time to pick the ripened fruit to accompany apples in my favorite pie.

This Video was put together in 2004 after an invitation by the late Johannes Volmer to visit and record the wonderful German ‘toy town’ of Seiffen. The quality of this video reflects the technological period of the time, enjoy.
Bluebell time in the Wild wood Stuart King

This year’s bluebells are now just a memory, so I hope that this short film will rekindle the blue haze that has the capacity to amaze and delight us in the knowledge that spring has, at last, sprung. It is now summertime and the glades of breeze wavering foxgloves have replaced the Belles in the Wildwood, more on these to come, enjoy.
Making a Besom Witches Broom, Stuart King

Many Traditional English crafts have disappeared during the last seventy years or so, and many of those that are left are in danger of going the same way. This short film covers the making of besom brooms, once a common sight and commodity in most country homes large and small. They also played a part in many industries. Adam King lives in the Chiltern Hills and is one of the last Broom Squires...

Wildwood Jays and Squirrels Stuart King
All being well will see you Sunday. It would be good to understand thumper bobbins if you have examples to show.
What a wonderful career. Thanks for show so much of the business from all over the world. I refer to your video of Mostopher Dnouch at almost every event I do. I might be thinking about a new treadle now.
That is a lovely video. I have admired your work for all my life, well done for all the work you did.
youtube.com/@handy20061?si=YtWJDG5hRN_CJVCz Very interesting.
How can I purchase one?
Thoroughly meaningful in every stage.
I’m so glad I found my way to this video.
I wonder if the pewter rings were done similarly to the captive ring - where the ring was put on before turning the wood away underneath it
I don't know man. Water is the mortal enemy to ivory leaving cracks behind when dried
He's a Master Craftsman. I thought my shop was small and cramped.
Brilliant piece of film Stuart.
Amazing footage! Well done for capturing it Stuart 👍
Please, I need to see the other chess pieces. 😭
I have danced out with Datchet a few times. Bonking sticks are still being used.
Thanks once again for bringing me a slice of home!
I believe it's a marsh tit because the bibs are thinner
Seems like only yesterday Stuart! Happier times. Remember them well.
Great video, which brought back memories as I was born and brought up there, leaving in 1971.
Maybe birds, as they're natural predators to insects. There may be an advantage to trees in having birds nest on them. Perhaps trimming, or their poo may seep down with the rain and feed the tree.
I saw this in in Marrakesh in 1961. I was 10 and the boy using the bow lathe was about 8. He was working hard. I had some idea that others might have very different lives to mine.
Ай да молодец,! Смотришь ролик на одном дыхании!
the extremely long ladders picture is amazing (and scary!)

Thank you so much for doing and sharing this.❤❤
Great video Stuart, thanks for sharing this unique personal perspective on the history of human creativity in our craft 👍
Hi Stuart, thanks a lot for making this available!
I just cancelled my American Beauty order.

As usual Stuart, a great film.

Great video, lovely and educational to see, good to see similar tools in use which the Bodgers used to use! Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful traditional hand crafted object 👍
What fun to discover this video! I'm sure my Style ancestors knew this pub well.
I saw a similar behaviour last week on one of the Green Oaks ((Quercus ilex ) on our property - white milky substance attracting, ants, speckled chafer beetles, flies, wild bees, hornets and butterflies
